MHP Building Contractors Ltd was set up in Pembury in October 2017 and is run by Matt Penniall. We take on the full range of domestic building work — house extensions and garden studios, kitchens and bathrooms, garage and cellar conversions, and the ongoing maintenance that keeps a house from turning into a bigger job later.
Being small is the point. Matt does the site visit, writes the quote, orders the materials and is on site while the work happens, with a settled team of tradespeople around him. Our clients describe the same three things again and again: he's experienced, he's reliable, and he's straight with you about what a job actually involves.
We work across Pembury, Tunbridge Wells, Tonbridge, Paddock Wood, Wadhurst and the surrounding Kent and Sussex villages, and quotes are free and carry no obligation. If a job isn't right for us, we'll tell you that too.
Our own work
A garden studio built like a building, not a shed.
A level base clear of the ground, an insulated floor, walls and roof, cladding on a ventilated cavity, and power, lighting and heating run properly from the house. That's the difference between a room you use in February and somewhere to keep the bikes — and it's all invisible in the photograph.

A call, then a proper look
Tell us what you're thinking of — an extension, a garden studio, a kitchen, a cellar you'd like to use. Matt comes out, measures up, looks at the parts of the house that will actually decide the job, and gives you an honest read on what's realistic.

A written, no-obligation quote
You get the scope in writing — what's included, what isn't, and where the decisions and costs sit. Quotes are free and there's no obligation. If the design still needs an architect, a structural engineer or a building control application, we'll tell you what's needed and when.

The build, run by one person
Matt schedules the trades so they follow each other in the right order, keeps the site tidy and keeps you told. If something unexpected turns up behind a wall or under a floor, you hear about it the same day, with options — not a month later on an invoice.

Snagged, cleared and handed over
We walk the job with you, write the snags down, finish them, and clear the site properly. Any paperwork the work generates — building control sign-off, appliance documents, guarantees from the products we fitted — comes to you at handover.

Two things worth reading before you spend anything.
Most of the money wasted on building work is spent before the building starts — on drawings for a job that didn't need them, or on a garden room that turns out to need permission. These are the two we get asked about most.
