Garage Conversions
The cheapest room you'll ever add — it's already built
Almost nobody parks in their garage. Converting one gives you a study, a playroom, a utility and shower room, an extra bedroom or an annexe for a few thousand less than building the same space from scratch — because the shell exists. What it doesn't have is insulation, a damp-proofed floor, enough natural light, or heating.
We convert integral and attached garages across Pembury, Tunbridge Wells, Tonbridge and the surrounding area. Most conversions need building regulations approval even where planning permission isn't required, and there are things to check before you start — whether the garage floor is low enough to insulate, whether there's a covenant on the deeds, and whether you're losing parking you'll later need. We go through all of it at the quote stage.

Warm, dry and part of the house
Garage floors are usually a thin slab with no damp-proof membrane and often sit lower than the house. We build up an insulated, damp-proofed floor to meet the internal level, insulate and line the walls — either an independent stud or insulated board on battens with a cavity — and insulate the roof or ceiling. Where the garage roof is asbestos cement, it's tested and removed under the right controls, never broken up.
Closing up the door, letting light in
The up-and-over door comes out and the opening is closed with a new blockwork or timber-frame wall, faced to match the house, with a window or French doors set in it so the room gets real daylight. Then heating extended off the existing system, new circuits, lighting and sockets, plasterboard and skim, flooring, and joinery and decorating that match the rest of the house — so it reads as a room, not a converted garage.
